Reports from Spain suggest that Jose Mourinho could take over from Xavi at Barcelona in his first role after his dismissal from Roma.

The Portuguese coach was sacked by the Giallorossi earlier this month after a painful 3-1 loss to Milan, a result that ultimately proved too much for the Friedkin family, who decided to end the 61-year-old’s time in charge of the club.

Mourinho was then heavily linked with a move to Napoli and multiple reports claimed he would meet with president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who later claimed that the coach ‘has nothing to do with Napoli’ and that his ‘destiny lies outside Italy’.

As reported by Spanish outlet ABC, Mourinho could end up on the Barcelona bench in the summer after Xavi’s resignation, with a key factor being his agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents club sporting director Deco.

The Blaugrana have signed multiple Mendes clients in recent years, including Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, and now his influence could see Mourinho take over at Barcelona.

One factor that could push the Special One not to take over in Catalonia may be his history with Real Madrid, although his decision to join Manchester United years ago despite his Chelsea history showed he can always be convinced.
