Jose Mourinho could be set to break a long-standing European record when Roma take to the field to challenge Sevilla for the Europa League trophy in the final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Wednesday evening.

Having won the Europa League and Champions League at the beginning of his career with Porto, as well as the Champions League with Inter, Europa League with Manchester United and Conference League with Roma, the Special One has won all five of the previous European finals in which he has competed.

The 60-year-old will be hoping to maintain his 100% win rate in European finals and bring home the Giallorossi’s second ever European title on Wednesday night.

If Roma are victorious in Hungary, Mourinho will become the first manager in history to have won six out of six major European finals, and would move past former Milan, Inter, Juventus and Azzurri coach Giovanni Trapattoni in the process, who also has a record of five from five, as pointed out by Opta, via Eurosport.

Sevilla, however, have a 100% record of their own to protect, having won the Europa League a record six times from their six appearances in the finals since 2006, having won three in a row in the years between 2013 and 2015.
