José Mourinho breaks silence following Romelu Lukaku’s red card in RomaFiorentina by quoting a Roman emperor and sends messages to Giallorossi fans and a ball boy who delivered a note to Rui Patricio on Sunday.

The Special One didn’t talk to the media following Roma’s 1-1 draw against Fiorentina which saw the Giallorossi reduced to nine men in the second half. Nicola Zalewski was sent off for two bookable offences, while Lukaku received a straight red card.

Mourinho commented on Lukaku’s red card on Instagram by posting a frame from the striker’s tackle and writing: “Silence is one of the great arts of conversation, by Marcus Tulius Cicero, old Roman wisdom.”

He also thanked Roma fans who had put up a banner calling for his contract extension and calling him a ‘Romanista for life.’ “Grazie, grazie, grazie,” wrote the Special One.

Lastly, he sent a second message, this time for a ball boy who had delivered a note to Rui Patricio on behalf of the Portuguese coach during the Fiorentina game. “That was me 50 years ago. Well done kid,” Mourinho concluded.

  1. Yes silence is one of the greatest arts of conversation …remember that next time you want to whine about referees or losing Cups!

  2. That doesn’t look like a “frame from the striker’s tackle”, rather from a Fiorentina player’s tackle, possibly on Zalewski, which wasn’t sanctioned with a red card….
