According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Nicolò Zaniolo will begin the preseason earlier than his teammates following a request from José Mourinho.

According to the Rome-based paper, the Special One has reportedly called Zaniolo several times since his appointment as Roma coach and the Italian starlet will begin his preseason next week.

The Giallorossi’s preseason will begin on July 6, but Zaniolo will begin training in Trigoria from Tuesday, June 29.

Mourinho wants the midfielder to begin pre-season training earlier than his teammates and Zaniolo will follow a special program prepared by the Portuguese coach’s staff.

Zaniolo missed the entire 2020-21 campaign due to a knee injury.

He sustained two knee surgeries in 2020. The first one in January and the second one in September after a Nations League clash between Italy and the Netherlands.

According to the report, Mourinho considers Zaniolo ‘ like a new signing’ and expects a lot from the 21-year-old who committed his future to Roma with an Instagram story where he put together a few pictures of himself kissing the Roma badge.
