Juventus and Atalanta have had their sights set on Morten Hjulmand for some time, but Roma have now reportedly emerged as serious contenders after a request from Jose Mourinho.

The 23-year-old Danish midfielder has been quietly impressing with the Puglian side since his arrival in January 2021, and quickly attracted the attention of both the Bianconeri and la Dea.

Neither side have made a serious move yet for Hjulmand and almost lost out to Southampton in last month’s transfer window, but the Saints’ €14m offer was rejected by Lecce.

As detailed by Carlo Laudisa of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mourinho has been keeping a close eye on Hjulmand for a little while now and has been left impressed with his tactical flexibility and high work rate.

The Portuguese coach has specifically asked the Roma management to work on a deal for the 23-year-old and Tiago Pinto has already started to lay the groundwork for this.

Lecce are not keen to talk terms currently, wanting to focus on avoiding relegation, but things will be different in the summer and Roma are keen to beat out their competition.
