Mourinho and Roma fined, funds donated to charity

José Mourinho and Roma have been fined €20,000 each following the coach’s harmful claims against referee Matteo Marcenaro on the eve of a Serie A game with Sassuolo and funds will be donated to charity.

The FIGC confirmed with an official statement on Friday morning that Mourinho had reached a plea agreement following his statements against referee Marcenaro on the eve of a Serie A game against Sassuolo two weeks ago.

FIGC had put Mourinho under investigation for ‘harmful statements.’

The Italian Federation have confirmed a €40,000 fine for Mourinho and Roma, equally split between the two parties. The club have been fined for ‘objective responsibility.’

FIGC said funds from Mourinho and Roma’s fines will be donated to charity, precisely to AIL, an Italian NGO promoting scientific research for treating leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma and helping patients and their families.

Roma’s next Serie A game is against Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara on Sunday. The Giallorossi and the Rossoblu sit fourth in the table, level on 25 points.
