Jose Mourinho had a slightly awkward reunion with Paolo Tagliavento, the referee whose decisions prompted him to do the handcuffs gesture while he was in charge of Inter.
The Roma coach crossed paths with Tagliavento during this week’s pre-season friendly game against Ternana, where the former referee is now working as part of their directorial staff.
They both marked the occasion on Instagram with photographs of the meeting, as well as some emojis that varied from a tongue out to laughter and a dubious consideration.
“So nice to meet again,” wrote Tagliavento, with a tongue sticking out emoji.
Tagliavento had sent off Inter players Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba during their Serie A match against Sampdoria in 2010.
Mou turned to the cameras and the fans in the stands, holding up his hands together as if they were in handcuffs.
It became probably the most iconic image of his time at the club, more so than winning the Treble.
Despite being down to nine men, and with Giampaolo Pazzini sent off for Sampdoria too, the game would end 0-0 in February 2010.
