Thiago Motta has confirmed that not much has changed in his tactical approach following his move to Juventus from Bologna, and insists that he wants the Old Lady to replicate the success he experienced with the Rossblu last term.

The new Bianconeri tactician still feels that the team should not be considered as ‘his’ Juve, rather ‘our’ Juve, though.

Thiago Motta spoke to Sky Sport Italia ahead of the new Serie A season, which kicks off this weekend.

What Thiago Motta said about Juventus and Bologna

Though he is happy with what he has seen thus far, Motta emphasised the need to keep improving on a daily basis, which he hopes to achieve by driving the importance of commitment, concentration and ambition.

His first competitive test as Juventus coach will come on Monday, when Juventus host newly-promoted Como at the Allianz Stadium.

“My goal with Juventus this year is to feel good about the first match against a team that will be very enthusiastic, because they had a great time in Serie B and are coming up off the back of a lot of good victories to get promotion to Serie A,” Motta told Sky.

“We must be focussed and determined to put in a good performance and get the result we’re looking for when we face them.”

Analysing the differences between Juventus and his former team Bologna, he added: “With Bologna and Juve, I always have the same ideas about football.

“We have to give our all to raise the levels around this club. When I say ‘good play’, I mean a team that knows how to defend well, that wants to have the ball and attack together.

“Good play means a lot of things, good mentality, physical and technical efforts on the pitch.”

The coach also added that nobody is indispensable to the team, but everybody is important and has a value.

That is despite the fact that there are around 10 former first team players who are not currently part of his plans, including Italy international Federico Chiesa.

“At this point in time, I don’t want it to be ‘my’ Juve, rather ‘our’ Juve. An ambitious and competitive team that always wants to raise its level. I think that’s the most important thing.

“We are part of an historic club, nobody is essential, but we are all important. We have to give our all and improve every day. Today we are at a very high level, but we have to maintain the same commitment, the same determination, concentration and ambition to be able to improve day after day.”

  1. Please sign Conceicao, or at least Marcus Edwards, they would be fantastic wingers on the right, we would have fun, with current squad without special skills and agility players we will dissappear, please pay these 30+ millions for Francisco Conceicao, he is worth every penny of this asking price, will never regret it, will sell for 100 millions at worst. Please 🙏
