Gianluca Mancini will likely be fined for waving a flag with the shape of a rat in the Lazio colours after Roma‘s victory over their city rivals on Saturday.

Roma and Italy defender Mancini caused controversy after scoring the Giallorossi’s winner in Saturday’s victory over Lazio and the 27-year-old could be fined or even suspended for waving a flag with the Lazio colours and a giant rat design.

As reported by Gazzetta, the most likely punishment for Mancini is a fine of at least €4,000.

The same measure was applied to some Milan players, including Theo Hernandez and Rade Krunic, for showing an offensive banner towards city rivals Inter during the 2022 Scudetto celebrations.

Likewise, ex-Roma striker Nicolò Zaniolo was fined €4,000 in the same year for an abusive banner against Lazio following the Giallorossi’s Conference League victory.

Article 4 of the Code of Sports Justice says players’ and coaches’ attitudes must be “inspired by the principles of sportsmanship, fairness and probity” in any sports activity.

The most severe offences can be punished with a ban, but in this case, Mancini will likely be fined following a FIGC investigation announced by Gabriele Gravina on Sunday morning.

  1. Tussling and saying stuff on the pitch: racism. Waving a banner after you scored in a FRIKING ETERNAL DERBY: offensive. Gosh, idk Westerners are this soft & stupid nowadays. I wonder what kind of punishment for Graeme Souness’ flag celebration or Enzo Maresca’s “bull” celebration if those happen in today’s football. Someone needs to hit the reset button on you all, this is getting ridiculous.
