Several Roma players were below par in a surprising 1-0 loss to Elfsborg on Thursday, Italian sports papers highlight.

Ivan Juric lost his first game as Roma boss on Thursday, as his Giallorossi team were beaten 1-0 away at Elfsborg, infuriating over 600 away fans.

The Croatian tactician had rotated his squad for the third match in a week, leaving Paulo Dybala on the bench and starting La Joya’s compatriot Matias Soulé.

However, the former Frosinone star failed to impress and was the most disappointing Roma player in Sweden, according to Italian sports papers.

Gazzetta and Tuttosport rated Soulé 5/10. Corriere dello Sport were even harsher, giving the Argentina international 4/10. The pink paper wrote that the player made ‘too many errors’ and was ‘sometimes irritating.’

Roma keeper Mile Svilar was the best Giallorossi player, which says all about their performance in Sweden.

Among the most disappointing Giallorossi players were Tommaso Baldanzi, who caused a penalty kick with a handball, backup striker Eldor Shomurodov, Stephan El Shaarawy, Mario Hermoso, and Leandro Paredes. None of them were rated at least 6/10 in any of the three leading Italian sports papers.

Even Paulo Dybala failed to impress when he was introduced in the second half. “He looked intimidated. Perhaps he feared an injury,” noted Corriere dello Sport.

Roma’s next Serie A match is away at Monza on Sunday.
