There is good news from Guinea, as the Morocco squad has been successfully evacuated after getting caught up in an armed coup ahead of their World Cup qualifier.

The team had arrived in Guinea yesterday and had one training session, but this morning found themselves trapped in the hotel while gunfire erupted outside.

An armed group had staged a coup, suspended the constitution, taken the President hostage and blocked all travel for a week.

There were two Fiorentina players in the team as well, Sofyan Amrabat and Youssef Maleh.

They have now successfully been evacuated from the hotel and taken to the airport, where the plane was waiting to take them back to Morocco.

The World Cup qualifier, which had been scheduled for tomorrow, was cancelled due to the ‘quite volatile’ political and security situation in Guinea.

It is not clear whether the Guinea squad has been able to leave too, as they include Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara.
