Simone Inzaghi has already won more trophies than Antonio Conte at Inter, but the Nerazzurri have collected ten points less than last season, so is Inzaghi’s glass half empty or full?

The Serie A giants could complete a domestic treble on Sunday but need to win against Sampdoria at home, hoping to see Milan slip at the Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo. Inzaghi has already won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa in his first season at the Stadio Meazza, surpassing Antonio Conte for trophies conquered with the Nerazzurri.

However, the current Tottenham boss won the Serie A title at Inter last season, their first in 11 years. Inzaghi saw Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku leave in the summer as the Nerazzurri owners Suning needed to balance the books and sent their stars to PSG and Chelsea, respectively, for a combined €183m fee.

Conte had already won the title at this stage of the season last term but managed a more valuable squad than the current one. Inzaghi was forced to work with fewer resources than his predecessor but could lose the title against a less valuable and experienced team like Milan. So, what if the Rossoneri become Serie A champions? Would Inzaghi’s glass be half empty or full?

  1. Conte was never a long term solution and he was basically begged to stay in the second year. Trophies is what a big club is made up of. He did it while progressing in the CL something that Conte couldn’t with a better squad

  2. Conte is a coward, he was the 1st to leave the club, even before Hakimi and Lukaku. Also failed to get out of UCL.

Inzaghi deserves credit for taking on the challenge and delivering trophies. However, he seems too soft on the players as they were not decisive enough against Bologna and Genoa, which costed them the title.

  3. Inzaghi has a plausible excuse. No coaching experience and yet unearthed the potential in D’Ambrosio. Fast forward and look at PhD Simone. A stronger spot battling team, more years coaching the slow ball fiesta and yet less points then Beckenbauer at this stage, fewer goals scored and no trophies added whereas the novice coach picked up 2. PhD Simone is starting with Sideways as he will not trust Cortez and Nainggolan is suspended. Looking at the CL, Simone was out on goals whereas the Dino the Dinosaur was royally spanked and even worse then Wayne Rooney.

  4. You have to factor in the losses of Lukaku and Eriksen. Plus the fact that he did better in the CL, going out to the potential winners, just, and doing so without Barella.

I would judge him more closely after his second season. hopefully he will consider different tactical options as a plan b, instead of only making like-for-like subs.

  5. It’s big success for Inzaghi. But, we all know, with Conte we’d win domestic treble and went maybe to semifinal in CL. With weaker Juve, Inter would win scudetto earlier just like previous season. Milan would never be real threat. So, Inzaghi was fenomenal, having much weaker squad than Conte. Forza Inzaghi. Next season, I expect again second place, if no stars will be sold. Juventus will win scudetto 100% with Allegri.

  6. It fairer to compare Inzaghi’s first season with Conte’s first season. Inzaghi took a team that lost 3 of its best players. Although I doubt Inzaghi’s charecter but I think he has done a good job.

  7. Have to be happy considering losing players (yes a couple were gained that helped like Cal too) but I think one of the biggest issues was player exhaustion after euros with players like barella unable to run after Christmas which coincided with the worst period for the team. Once players got a decent rest between games, performances picked back up. Watch how much better this team is next year with a decent end of season break

  8. Inzaghi more than conte on the first year. Conte won scudetto on the 2nd year.
Inzaghi won both coppa and qualified on the UCL next round on the 1st year.

  9. Yes, Conte won in his 2nd year when on paper he had the strongest team. Once this was not the case any more, he rapidly left the ship.

Just give Inzaghi a few years and proper transfers 😉
