Former Inter President Massimo Moratti says Juventus are “in a season of transition” and that he was “perplexed” when the club got rid of Mauro Icardi, Radja Nainggolan and Ivan Perisic.

The Derby d’Italia will be played behind closed doors due to the on going spread of the Coronavirus, and Moratti isn’t sure how the lack of atmosphere will affect the players.

“I don’t remember any precedents in this regard,” Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Derby d’Italia will be played behind closed doors due to the on going spread of the Coronavirus, and Moratti isn’t sure how the lack of atmosphere will affect the players.

“I don’t remember any precedents in this regard,” Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The absence of the public makes it even more difficult to make a prediction, because you cannot know how the teams will react to such a situation.

“I think we will have to take advantage of the situation.”

Juve have come in for plenty of criticism in the aftermath of their 1-0 defeat against Lyon in the Champions League, and Moratti says the gap between the two sides is close.

“Juve are in a season of transition, after a long time with the same coach, and they must find themselves.

“We saw it in Lyon, and above all we have grown compared to previous years, with a strong coach and a good team.”

Inter’s decision to hire Antonio Conte last summer didn’t go down well by both sets of supporters, given Conte’s history with The Old Lady, so did that bother Moratti?

“Not at all, I’m still the one who chose Lippi…”

The Nerazzurri moved on Mauro Icardi, Radja Nainggolan and Ivan Perisic last summer, and Moratti wasn’t quite sure if they were the right decisions at the time.

“To be honest, at the time I was perplexed, it seemed absurd to me, but also for the fact that we bought Romelu Lukaku, but it turned out to be absolutely right.”
