Inter President Massimo Moratti insists the January transfer strategy “will not depend” on Wesley Sneijder and he believes in the Scudetto.

There are numerous clubs lined up for Sneijder, who has been told he won’t play again until he signs a new contract lowering his €6m per season wages.

“The transfer market does not depend on Sneijder. Nothing depends on him,” assured Moratti at a Pirelli event this evening.

“I think more than anything else what the market depends on will be the economy of the club, so we will evaluate that first.”

The President reserved particular praise for Antonio Cassano after the climb up to second place.

“Antonio is an artist and when an artist is in the right period, you can expect anything. What pleases me most is not that he’s playing well, but also that Cassano feels happy and settled at Inter. This is good for the whole squad.

“He is capable of playing 90 minutes, but it is a tactical and precautionary decision to limit his playing time.

“Naturally I hope we can continue winning. I didn’t expect such a strong start to the season, as we renewed so much of the side from Coach to players. It’s not easy to get into gear with so many new elements.

“The Scudetto? I think it is in our capabilities. We’ll have to see at the end of the season whether other clubs have a greater chance than we do, but right now we are thinking big.”
