This is Inter’s first Scudetto since Moratti sold the club in 2016.

“I’m thrilled. It’s a great emotion. I’ve lived this season with more freedom as I am not the President anymore. I am superstitious, so I hadn’t replied to you journalists over the last few days,” Moratti told La Repubblica.

“Conte has done an exceptional job and the board has supported him. If I have to choose the most essential players, I would say Lukaku, Barella and Hakimi.

“Eriksen was a nice surprise in the second part of the season and Handanovic was really good. He did some mistakes, but the fans should forgive him because he also put down some incredible performances.”

How will Moratti celebrate Inter’s Scudetto?

“I’ll wear an Inter shirt, I have so many, I only need to choose which one. My former players gifted me so many when they retired, I just won’t say which one I pick because I don’t want to disappoint anyone.

“I’ll open a bottle of champagne and I will call all the Interisti that called me these days and to whom I haven’t replied.”

What does he make of Steven Zhang’s era?

“We’ve texted each other and I’ve congratulated him for what he is doing. He told me he wants to meet me in the coming days, which I will gladly do.

“I really like him, as I like his father, I hope Inter remain under their ownership for a long time, obviously with Conte on the bench.”

José Mourinho said he is open to returning to Serie A, but would coach one of Inter’s rivals.

“I will love Mourinho forever, whatever choice he does. I’d be happy if he returns to Italy. He would be able to stimulate the world of football has he’s done everywhere. I wish him the best.”
