Former Inter President Massimo Moratti looks forward to their match against Roma, expecting Jose Mourinho’s men to be the ‘surprise of the season’ in Serie A.

It kicks off at San Siro on Saturday at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

There are reports today that Romelu Lukaku is still not training with the group, so it is highly unlikely he will be able to feature this weekend after a month out with a muscular strain.

“Inter need to do well, because it has been difficult recently and Lukaku’s absence has been really keenly felt, as he is the most important player in the squad,” Moratti told Radio Centro Suono.

“I get the feeling Inter were knocked back by losing the Scudetto last season and there’s disappointment in the air. They need something to shake them up and get back on track.

“Roma are certainly in better shape and want to get some consistency, they are an entertaining squad and can be the surprise of the season.”

It is Mourinho’s return to San Siro, but he will not be on the touchline due to a ban, so the Special One can salute the Inter supporters from the stands.

Moratti was still the President when Mourinho won the Treble in 2010.

“His characteristics are always the same, professionalism and focus on the details. Mourinho has the ambition to do better than last season.”

These two clubs also did battle on the transfer market this summer, as Roma eventually signed Paulo Dybala as a free agent after he had met with Inter.

“Dybala is a great player and any Inter fan would’ve wanted him here, but the club made other choices,” concluded the former President.
