Former Inter President Massimo Moratti has reiterated his belief that Roberto Mancini is the right man to oversee the Nerazzurri’s rebirth.

Mancini was appointed in November with the San Siro giants struggling, but good recent form has propelled them to within touching distance of a European spot.

“I am satisfied and I believe that much Mancini deserves a lot of the credit,” Moratti has told today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport.

“Our Coach is a winner and is doing things right. I can see how he has rebuilt the team, giving it self-confidence and a good style of play.

“Against Lazio we also had a little luck, which never hurts in football, but the three points are still important for our position in the table.”

La Beneamata are currently three points off Fiorentina in fifth place and will face Juventus in the Derby d’Italia this weekend, when Moratti celebrates his 70th birthday.

“The team is in a position to have a good end to the season,” he said.

“I can see it going well because the Coach has some good ideas from the tactical point of view.

“Of course, Europa League qualification also depends on the results of other teams, those that we still have to chase [Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Genoa].

“Meanwhile, we have to think about doing the best we can in the last three matches and then we'll see.

“Of course, beating Juventus would be a nice birthday present, but there are some things that you can’t ask for or make allowances for. I wish it were that easy…”

Moratti was also delighted with Sunday’s two-goal hero Hernanes, who has had a new lease of life recently under Mancini’s tutelage.

“We knew he was a great player long before the two goals on Sunday against Lazio.

“At the moment he is simply proving his worth and Mancini also deserves credit for instilling confidence into his players.

“There are also many other players he has got the best from. Mancini is really good at his job and is the right person to entrust with the rebirth of Inter.”
