Former Inter president Massimo Moratti discussed the impact of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on Napoli, their upcoming clash with the Nerazzurri and the work of Luciano Spalletti.

The league leaders will face Simone Inzaghi’s side in a key clash on Wednesday January 4, starting off the second half of the season with a blockbuster duel. A win for Napoli puts them one step closer to lifting their first Scudetto in over three decades, whilst victory for Inter will give them vital confidence after their inconsistent start to the campaign.

Speaking to Radio Punto Nuovo, Moratti first looked ahead to the clash between Inter and Napoli.

“For Inter the match against Napoli will be very important, more so than for Napoli. For Inter it will be an uphill climb that is anything but easy this resumption of the season.

“On Napoli there is pressure due to consistency, because we will have to see if after the break the Azzurri will have the same formidable vehemence as in the first half.

“For Inter, on the other hand, the pressure is all about the Scudetto fight. Losing on Wednesday would mean slipping away for good.”

He gave his thoughts on the work of Kvaratskhelia and if he was similar to former Inter star Ronaldo.

“They are different players, but the impact was similar. However, Ronaldo arrived in Italy who was already an expected player, who had somehow already broken through.

“I wish the Georgian to have the same career and explosion as the Brazilian. He will be decisive for Napoli’s victory with his talents.”

The former Nerazzurri president spoke highly about Napoli coach Spalletti.

“Spalletti has shown that he has exceptional gifts and is showing it with results. Napoli spent little and also said goodbye to important elements.

“Spalletti has been good at turning a necessity into a real opportunity to be able to win the title.”

He commented on Napoli’s two main dangers ahead of the clash.

“The Georgian and striker Osimhen, no doubt! They are the two players who most of all can decide the match against Inter.”

Finally, Moratti predicted what would happen in the title race.

“If Inter slip away, absolutely I sympathize with the Azzurri. A final victory by Napoli would put football on a more normalized level, from the point of view of accounts and budgets.

“Passion arouses it all the same, but there is a need for football to be further normalized. I wish our movement to return to more ordinary canons.”
