Juve’s appeal was thrown out by the Supreme Court of Cassation, which decided it was a sporting issue, and Moratti felt justice was served.

“I think Andrea Agnelli was expecting it too,” the former Inter President told Sport Mediaset.

“The decision was logical and it’ll please the Inter fans. I don’t even remember [Calciopoli] anymore…

“it was good to make further clarity, and it’s a consequence of what had happened. Given the verdict arrived on the day Marotta’s appointment became official,  I hope he brings us the luck to do well.

“Now we need to put the pieces together again. It’s a psychological issue above all [referring to Inter’s exit from the Champions League].

“The objective of qualifying for next season’s Champions League is in reach, plus the Europa League is very important and the Coppa Italia shouldn’t be underestimated: our objectives remain intact.”

Moratti then gave his approval to reports a group of high-profile fans were planning to buy Erick Thohir’s stake in the Nerazzurri.

“It looks like a good thing,” he added.

“It’s a test of passion. It’s an interesting new development with some credible names. I think it pleases Zhang and it would be useful for the club.

“Have they contacted me? They’ve told me about it…”
