Massimo Moratti said being an Inter fan is “like loving a beautiful woman who is difficult to deal with and spoilt.”

The club marked its 110th anniversary last night with the unveiling of their Hall of Fame and Moratti – along with his father Angelo – were given a special award for their contributions.

“Behind Inter there is a past made up of dreams and united friends. Inter have real meaning and are one of the things I have loved the most in my life,” Moratti told RMC Sport.

“My father was a genius who could see the future. He gave us a great responsibility. Too often, suffering is associated with these club colours, but for me these years were also profoundly moving and allowed us to win several trophies.

“Inter is like loving a beautiful woman who is difficult to deal with a spoilt, all things that are tough to put up with. Being a President has always been a role of great responsibility and I felt that towards the fans.”

Moratti sold the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, who then passed over most of his shares to Chinese conglomerate Suning Group.

“We are not accustomed to having foreign owners, but I know them and they are genuinely passionate about this project. We must all help them and allow them to make mistakes so they can grow.

“We are on the right track and that can allow us to rediscover the love for these colours. I wish the Zhang family all the best, because we are all with them.”
