La Gazzetta di Modena published the video recording of the conversation in which he discussed pre-season performances compared to last year under Spalletti.

“Conte is good, you can see the team is playing football,” said Moratti.

“His DNA is awful (referring to his past at Juventus, ndr), but the players and the team are clearly playing with forward passes and not like last season when they only passed horizontally. I mean, I felt like shooting myself watching that…”

Moratti was asked about the club freezing out Mauro Icardi and paying €65m plus €10m bonuses for Manchester United centre-forward Lukaku.

“I don’t know what’s happening with Icardi. Obviously, Icardi is a better striker than Lukaku.

“I know Icardi, he’s a very good lad and has always been a professional. You can’t just invent stuff about his wife.

“Inter got into knots because they wanted to act like hard men, then didn’t know how to justify it and continued dragging on this story, but couldn’t get out of it.”
