Inter chief Massimo Moratti says he’s happy with the way the club conducted itself during the January transfer window – despite the sale of Thiago Motta.
The club sold the midfielder to Paris Saint-Germain yesterday even though they were asked not to by boss Claudio Ranieri.
“Ranieri was right because Motta is certainly an important player for the way we play, but that didn’t stop the sale,” the President said outside of his offices in Milan on Wednesday.
“We had to sell Thiago Motta because that is what the player wanted. It was a good operation for us.”
Inter brought in defender Juan Jesus from Internacional, plus midfielders Angelo Palombo from Sampdoria and Porto’s Fredy Guarin over the last month.
“It seemed to be a logical market,” Moratti continued. “Some of the players who have come in have importantly rejuvenated the squad and others have added experience. I think we did well.
“Guarin has to recover from injury, but he’s a player who people have spoken well about. From what I have seen of him, they are right.”
Moratti also commented on the future of Wesley Sneijder, a player who Ranieri has admitted doesn’t presently fit tactically into his plans.
“There are highs and lows in relationships, but I think that Sneijder and Ranieri have character, strength and the desire to do well,” the oil baron continued.
“I have a lot of faith in Sneijder and I believe strongly that we need him at Inter.”
