Morata the scapegoat for Juventus’ lack of goals with his future up in the air

Alvaro Morata was booed by Juventus fans yesterday and his future in Turin remains up in the air.

The Spaniard has scored four goals in 16 appearances across all competitions this season, one every 273 minutes.

He was harshly criticised by fans and media after a poor performance against Atalanta yesterday.

He didn’t only fail to create trouble for La Dea, but a misplaced pass helped Berat Djimsiti set up Duvan Zapata for the eventual winner in the first half.

Morata was replaced in the second half and the Allianz Stadium crowd booed him while Juventus reserves and Massimiliano Allegri tried to cheer him up by clapping him.

Allegri Out? Fans react on social media after another Juventus setback

The Tuscan tactician refused to blame his striker in a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia.

“Clearly, fans boo when things don’t go well, but Morata’s performance was great, he fought hard. I have nothing to say to anyone,” the Juventus coach said.

Morata is currently out on loan in Turin. The Bianconeri can make his move permanent from Atletico Madrid for €35m, but, at this stage, his stay at the club seems unlikely.

Juventus have already paid €20m for a two-year loan, but have targeted many other strikers for January or the end of the season.

Fiorentina‘s Dusan Vlahovic is definitely on top of the Bianconeri’s shopping list, but the Tuscans’ asking price is €70-80m.

Morata scored 11 goals in 32 Serie A appearances under Andrea Pirlo last term.

Juventus have the worst attacking record among the top 10 in Serie A this season having scored just 18 goals in 14 games.

Being the team’s centre-forward, Morata is seen as one of the main ones responsible for Juventus’ lack of goals and he’ll have to turn things around soon to help Juve and convince them that he can be their striker also in the next campaign.
