Morata rejects Roma as he waits for Milan

Alvaro Morata wants to join Milan this summer and turned down an approach from Roma as he waits for a deal to be agreed with Atletico Madrid, reports suggest.

The Rossoneri are on the hunt for a new striker and have seemingly turned their focus to Morata, who recently penned a new contract in the Spanish capital lasting until 2026.

Morata is keen to return to Italy with his family and wants to join Milan, rejecting a lucrative offer from Saudi side Al Ettifaq.

Pages six and seven of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport detail how Morata would be willing to lower his salary to push through a move to Milan, who have prepared a four-year deal worth around €5m net per season, €1.5m less than he earns in Spain.

The Rossoneri now need to agree a deal with Atletico. A release clause worth around €20m is present in his contract, but the Italian side are hoping to negotiate down to around €12m.

In recent weeks, Roma looked to explore a move for Morata, but he politely rejected them, wanting to play Champions League football.
