Alvaro Morata speaks out about his failed move to Barcelona and finding a new role at Juventus alongside Dusan Vlahovic. ‘Everyone in every profession wants to feel wanted and important.’

The Spain international commented after a 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona, in which he provided an assist for debutant Denis Zakaria after Vlahovic scored the opener.

“I am glad because we rediscovered what we’ve been missing, these sensations and this fire,” Morata told DAZN.

Serie A | Juventus 2-0 Verona: Dream Vlahovic and Zakaria debuts

It was a tricky January for Morata, because he had seemed to be on the verge of a transfer to Barcelona before his parent club Atletico Madrid blocked it.

With Juve signing Vlahovic, did he feel that he was no longer required in Turin?

“What happened happened, I am here. The club and coach said they have faith in me and that is very important to me.

“The fans applauded me when I was substituted today too and that meant a lot. Everyone in every profession wants to feel wanted and important, so that’s how I feel right now.”

Did Morata not feel a little pushed aside considering Vlahovic plays in his role, that of centre-forward, and the club invested over €75m?

“These things happen in life. I am almost 30 years old, we signed one of the best centre-forwards in the world and he is very young, so has many years to keep growing and improving.

“I am happy, we work well together with Dybala too, we’ve got to work on it so we can do even better.”

Morata provided an assist for Denis Zakaria this evening, so is he enjoying the slightly wider role?

“It’s different, because there are many passes with the pitch in front of you, which is different to protecting the ball.

“I am happy to play and give my contribution, but I also know this is a great squad and if needed I will sit on the bench. We must be happy when we win and I am happy this evening.”

  1. Morata should go back to school and start playing as a midfielder, work on his defense and voila he would fit perfect!
