The Spaniard sat down with La Gazzetta dello Sport to discuss his current form and surprising lack of Serie A goals.

“Juve-Milan is like a Final considering our position in the table right now. It is our Clasico, for the history that goes with this fixture.

“It’s a huge game where recent form perhaps counts for little, but both teams will go full throttle. It is unusual facing a 16-year-old goalkeeper, but when this does happen they tend to stay between the posts for another 15 years… I hope Gianluigi Donnarumma has a great career, but mainly after he faces us.”

Juventus are now in seventh place, just two points off Milan and above all nine adrift of joint leaders Fiorentina and Inter.

“The team has been winning lately and playing better. The objective is to get as many points as possible before Christmas and progress in the Champions League.

“Considering the Italian standards, we are not actually that far off the top of the table. In another League nine points might be a bigger hurdle to overcome, but in Serie A everyone can lose to everyone else, so I am sure we’ll get back on top. The fans had patience with us when things weren’t going well, so we hope to repay their faith.

“We’re back to being Juventus, rediscovering that hunger to win and creating fear in our opponents. It’s only natural to struggle initially after so many changes, but the locker room remains the same, the captains who have been here for many years. It’s important to let the newcomers know what it means to be at Juve.”

Morata equalled Alessandro Del Piero’s club record of scoring in consecutive Champions League games, but his Serie A tally has been disappointing this season.

“In all honesty, I haven’t been fully fit physically. I played on through various aches and pains, which is why I wasn’t consistent. I still haven’t been able to play a full game. Now physically I feel great and you’ll see that reflected on the pitch, I can assure you.”

It had been reported in the Spanish Press that Morata was unhappy with his new tactical role and therefore more likely to accept a return to Real Madrid.

“I’m glad to have this opportunity to clarify some things. Every time I play, I am happy, and I didn’t say that I don’t like playing on the left, but that it’s more difficult to score from there.

“My objective is to win titles, not scorers’ charts. What is the point in scoring 25 goals if I don’t win anything with the team?

“Clearly when a striker doesn’t score he is criticised, but if you gave me the chance to take the Scudetto and not score again this season, I’d take it right now.

“As for Real Madrid rumours, I let it all slide off me. The only thing that interests me is playing as much as possible for Juve and winning titles, as after that anything people say is not my problem.

“I know that I have to do better, that I haven’t been as consistent as last season and so far I haven’t played at my level. I need to get back there and surpass it, seeing as I am only 23 and hope to improve further.

“I am very happy where I am and am not thinking of any other club. It’s true there are many things that are not up to me, but I repeat I am happy at Juventus and have no intention of changing.

“Has someone from Real Madrid contacted me? No.”
