Alvaro Morata assures he will be ‘ready’ for the start of the Serie A season this weekend after making his Milan debut in the Trofeo Berlusconi.
The Spain international had to delay his vacation until after lifting the EURO 2024 trophy in Germany, where he was captain of the side that won every single match in the European Championship.
He only arrived in Italy for this new Rossoneri experience this week and started tonight’s 3-1 win over Monza in the pre-season Trofeo Berlusconi, after being presented to the fans along with fellow new signings Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal.
“It was wonderful, I thank all the fans who came here in the heat and gave us a great atmosphere,” Morata told Mediaset.
“I only had two training sessions with the team, but I think I will be ready and in good shape for the start of the season.”
That will be at San Siro on Saturday evening against Torino and the former Juventus striker could well start there too.
Morata makes Milan debut
The goals tonight were scored by Alexis Saelemaekers – with a big deflection off Pablo Mari – Luka Jovic and Tijjani Reijnders, while Daniel Maldini was on target for Monza.
“We must get it into our minds that we need to work well in defence. I watched the friendly games Milan played in America and the quality in the squad is evident,” added Morata.
Does he think they will challenge for the Scudetto this season?
“Wearing this jersey forces you to be competitive for victory. There is no formula for success. Nobody likes facing Milan, we need to work harder and achieve our objectives.”
Even at 31, he acts like a baby. Slightest touch and he is down on the floor. Pathetic.
