The Spain international had three goals ruled out in a single game against Barcelona in the Champions League.

“I’ve now had 13 goals ruled offside in a single year,” Morata told El Partidazo de Cope.

“Maybe if I had slightly smaller feet, it would’ve been fewer… In the Champions League, my shoulders were 40cm behind Lenglet, yet another time I had a goal disallowed with the line on my elbow. I don’t understand why VAR did that, as surely if I had scored with my elbow, it would’ve been disallowed.

“VAR put the line on the shoulder too, what is the point of that? How many goals per year do you see scored with a shoulder? I realise if the foot is offside, then I can correct my run and start later, but how do you measure the distance of your shoulder from the defender?

“In any case, there’s no point complaining, as they were called offside and there’s nothing I can do about it other than keep working and try to score more goals.

“In future, I’ll try to wait for a second more before starting my run.”
