Italian pop singer Gianni Morandi says he will resign his position as honorary President at Bologna, once they are assured their League status.

The club have entered a period of uncertainty, amid fan protests against President Albano Guaraldi, urging him to accept a takeover offer  led by former Juventus” data-scaytid=”4″>Juventus and Roma director Gian Paolo Montali and funded by entrepreneur Francesco Becchetti, as head of the Becchetti Energy Group.

In support of Guaraldi, Morandi has released a statement declaring he will leave his position held since 2010, in protest against the fans’ behaviour.

“When the team is safe, and of this I am sure, I will resign from the post of honorary President,” Morandi has written on his Facebook page.

“I have not done so before, to avoid further problems and because in times of difficulty we must remain united.”

Morandi had previously criticised the supporters for whistling and singing anti-Neapolitan songs during the playing of one of his songs before Bologna-Napoli in mid-January.

“The fans did not appreciate my words agasint them, when they booed during ‘Caruso’ and insulted the supporters of Napoli.

“Anyway, I stand by my view. About 2,000 fans screaming ‘out of Bologna’, also directed their calls at me.

“I just want to remind them that since Bologna avoided bankruptcy three years ago, this mistreated management has always kept the team in Serie A.”
