Spanish outlet Relevo claims Papu Gomez has been banned for two years after failing a doping test while under contract with Sevilla.

The former Atalanta star returned to Serie A last month, joining Monza as a free agent after his contract with Sevilla had expired.

He has only made two appearances for the Brianzoli this season, but his time at the club could be over already.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, in fact, Gomez has been banned by the Spanish federation for two years after failing a doping test during his time at Sevilla.

According to the report, Gomez failed the doping test in November 2022, before taking part in the World Cup won by his Argentina side.

The player claims that a few days before failing the test, he had taken syrup from one of his children to treat a cold without informing club doctors.

According to the report, Gomez was informed about the suspension earlier this week. It remains to be seen if the Argentinean attacker will lodge an appeal, reports Relevo.
