Monza press Sensi, Pessina and Petagna

Newly-promoted Monza are very active on the market, continuing talks for Stefano Sensi from Inter, Atalanta’s Matteo Pessina and Napoli striker Andrea Petagna.

The 2022-23 campaign will be the very first in Serie A for Monza, who have been transformed since the takeover from former Milan chiefs Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani.

Because of that backing, they are working hard on the transfer market to create a star-studded squad that can aim even higher than merely avoiding relegation back to Serie B.

Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno signed today, on loan with obligation to buy if they stay in Serie A for €4m.

Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia both report there was another meeting today for Sensi, as Inter are happy to send him out on loan, but the player is not yet fully convinced and asked for time to make a decision.

Pessina was in the EURO 2020 winning Italy squad and even scored in that tournament, but it has not been a great season for him and he is tempted by the new challenge at his first club.

Atalanta also want to whittle down their squad after failing to qualify for Europe.

Another option emerging for Monza is Napoli striker Petagna, who turns 27 later this week and wants more regular playing time.

Their first choice was Andrea Pinamonti, but Inter are demanding €20m and the centre-forward wants a bigger club.
