Monza President Silvio Berlusconi, who had been at the helm of Milan for over 30 years, has been moved out of intensive care for the first time since April 5.

The 86-year-old was also the Prime Minister of Italy and remains one of the chief figures in the centre-right coalition in charge of the country in 2023.

He had been taken into the San Raffaele hospital in Milan on April 5 with breathing difficulties and his doctor revealed that Berlusconi had also been receiving treatment for a chronic form of leukaemia.

There was gradual improvement and this evening Professor Alberto Zangrillo announced Berlusconi has been moved out of intensive care.

He was also cheered by the result of last night’s Serie A match, as his Monza earned a shock 1-0 victory away to Inter at San Siro.

That result effectively secured their Serie A safety with eight rounds to spare, having last summer earned their first ever promotion to the top flight.
