Multiple sources claim newly-promoted Monza have beaten Lazio to the signing of Hellas Verona defender Nicolò Casale, so instead go for Real Madrid youth player Mario Gila.

The Biancocelesti remain static on the transfer market, needing several new signings to replace those who have left, including goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, defender Luiz Felipe Ramos and a suitable back-up for Ciro Immobile.

This situation is dragging on and forcing them to miss out on targets, the latest being Verona defender Casale.

Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia are confident Verona have now accepted an offer from Monza instead, with the player yet to accept personal terms.

Alessio Romagnoli is a free agent after his contract with Milan ran down, but he too has been unable to agree personal terms with Lazio, the club he has always supported.

Now Sportitalia point to a different reinforcement in defence for the Biancocelesti, in talks with Real Madrid’s 21-year-old Mario Gila.

He would be available on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, having made his LaLiga debut this term.

Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla’ warns this is a familiar pattern with Lazio, who drag out deals for months and frustrate coach Maurizio Sarri.
