The local council in Monza has filed a motion asking to rename the stadium after club President Silvio Berlusconi, who died today at the age of 86.

The arena was originally called the Stadio Brianteo and changed to the U-Power Stadium when the naming rights were sold.

There had been suggestions already, including from former Rossoneri player Filippo Galli, that when Milan get a new stadium it should be named after Berlusconi.

He was the club’s President for over 30 years and took them from the verge of bankruptcy to winning 29 trophies.

However, with no firm location even set at this stage, it could take a very long time before the arena comes to fruition, assuming of course that it ever does.

On the other hand, Berlusconi was President of Monza from 2018 to his death and took the club to its first ever Serie A campaign.

The U-Power Stadium would be renamed the Stadio Silvio Berlusconi.
