Monza continue to be the most active club in the Serie A transfer market, now making a surprise approach for William Carvalho of Real Betis.

This will be Monza’s first ever top flight campaign, but backed by former Milan greats Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani, they are determined to target at least mid-table comfort, if not European football.

They already signed Gianluca Caprari from Hellas Verona today on loan with obligation to buy, plus Filippo Ranocchia on loan from Juventus.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Monza have now asked after 30-year-old Portugal international William Carvalho.

His contract with Real Betis is due to expire in June 2023, meaning a transfer is potentially possible.

He scored four goals and provided five assists in 49 competitive games for Betis last season.

Carvalho had already been linked with Serie A and Inter back in 2018, but moved to Real Betis from Sporting CP for €16m.

The Monza midfield has been completely revamped already with Stefano Sensi coming from Inter, Matteo Pessina from Atalanta and Juve youth player Ranocchia.
