Beto and Destiny Udogie got their name on the scoresheet against Monza in a 2-1 win at the U-Power Stadium with Roberto Mancini in the stands.

It was the first game of Serie A matchday 3.

Monza defender Marlon suffered an adductor injury hours before the game, so he joined Andrea Ranocchia and Pablo Mari on the treatment table, leaving Giovanni Stroppa short of options in defence.

Udinese were without the suspended Nehuen Perez who had seen red in the previous game against Salernitana.

Samuele Birindelli saw Monza’s first-ever goal at home in Serie A disallowed as Gianluca Caprari was offside when he collected a vertical pass from Stefano Sensi.

However, the former Hellas Verona striker left his mark a few minutes later, offering an assist for Andrea Colpani, who broke the deadlock with a left side-foot finish from inside the box.

Udinese reacted immediately with a similar action. Beto cut inside the box, put his body in front of Luca Caldirola’s and scored his first season goal making the most of a smart pass from Rodrigo Becao.

Monza struggled to build up from the back and when Carlos Augusto gave the ball away in his own half, Gerard Deulofeu went for the goal, bus his shot was inches wide of the right post.

Udinese players also made several errors with the ball at their feet so the hosts also had one final chance before the break, but Bram Nuytinck blocked Mattia Valoti’s shot from inside the box.

Birindelli did the same shortly after when Beto passed it to Deulofeu, whose attempt didn’t go past the young defender.

The hosts had a solid start to the second half, with Marco Silvestri responsible for two crucial saves. Deulofeu created a goal-scoring opportunity with a brilliant backheel pass that Salvatore Molina sent over the bar.

Destiny Udogie eventually won it for Udinese with a chip at the end of an attacking manoeuvre on the left. Roberto Pereyra made it three for the Friulani but was offside when he found the net from inside the box.

Monza have now lost three games in a row, while Udinese have four points in three games and their coach Andrea Sottil has won his first ever-game in Serie A.
