Montpellier player Junior Sambia is off the ventilator and has been taken out of his induced coma, confirmed his agent, after complications from COVID-19.
The 23-year-old was the first Ligue 1 player to test positive for coronavirus, although his first test came back negative.
It was only after he’d been rushed to hospital with respiratory problems on Tuesday that another test found him positive.

Agent Frederic Guerra had told Le Parisien that Sambia was “in an induced coma” after changing hospitals, as his condition worsened on Wednesday.
However, Guerra spoke to RTL this evening with some positive updates.
“He is off the ventilator, and although it’s going to be a long recovery process, he is no longer in a coma. Without doubt, that is good news.
“He is breathing by himself and that is very good to hear.”
