On-loan Inter defender Martin Montoya could return to Barcelona in January after only six months, say reports.

The 24-year-old joined the Nerazzurri on loan with the option to buy in the summer, but reports suggest he could be heading for an early exit.

The Spaniard has yet to make a single appearance for Roberto Mancini’s side this season, having failed to come off the bench in any of the club’s 13 Serie A matches so far.

Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport have both reported today that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio was in Barcelona to watch their 6-1 win over Roma on Tuesday.

The newspapers say that Ausilio met with the Blaugrana and Montoya’s lawyer Juan de Dios Carrasco to talk about his future and given that his buyout clause is linked to appearances, he could return to Catalonia in January.
