Riccardo Montolivo believes Milan did everything they could to find a breakthrough against Torino, only to be denied by luck and some inspired goalkeeping.

Italy shot-stopper Salvatore Sirigu had an impressive game in the Granata goal as Vincenzo Montella’s team lost yet more ground in the race for European places.

“I think today Milan did everything possible to get a goal,” Montolivo insisted post-match.

“In our way, we found Sirigu who was great and we were lacking luck.

“We need to improve in our final decisions, but today we tried everything to win.

“What was missing? Our fluidity and precision in the final third. We got into good positions well but then we couldn’t take advantage.

“We could have created more that what we did.”

The midfielder was asked whether Milan’s participation in the Europa League is having a negative effect on their Serie A performance.

“We need to be honest and say that the opponents we played on Thursday were easier to play against.

“However, our Europa League journey up to now has been great. But we need to improve in the League.”
