Riccardo Montolivo is set to start for Italy against Norway tonight, and thanks CT Antonio Conte.

The Milan captain has not played for the Azzurri since breaking his leg in a pre-World Cup friendly against Ireland in 2014.

However, with Marco Verratti and Andrea Pirlo injured, the playmaker is set to take over the creative role in the midfield.

“I’m happy and excited,” Montolivo told Premium Sport.

“I thank Conte for the faith that he’s shown in me.”

With the raft of injuries afflicting the squad, Conte is expected to switch to a 3-5-2 system for tonight’s match.

Eder and Pelle are already confirmed to start up-front, with Andrea Barzagli likely to join Juventus teammates Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini in the backline.

Probable Italy line-up: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Darmian, Florenzi, Montolivo, Soriano, De Sciglio; Eder, Pelle
