Former Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo said Stefano Pioli and Sandro Tonali are ‘among the best in Italy’ and is excited about the Rossoneri’s playing style. ‘Milan are addicted to Pioli’

The Rossoneri are joint leaders with Napoli in Serie A, creating a gap of seven points down to Inter at third by an unbeaten run of 12 games.

Montolivo, who spent seven years at the club between 2012 and 2019, admitted he’s ‘in love’ with Pioli’s methods at San Siro.

“Today, Milan are addicted to Pioli,” Montolivo told Tuttosport. “He is the architect of all this change.

“Pioli at the moment, is among the best coaches in Italy and perhaps Europe too. I’m in love with his way of doing football, with the way he makes the team play.

“If he wins the Scudetto, if he starts to win, he can join the greats.”

Montolivo also spoke about midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has stepped up after a difficult first season with the Rossoneri.

The Italy international has been in great form for Milan this term and after playing in all 16 competitive games this term, he earned a place in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad.

“His growth has been exponential, at the moment he’s the best midfielder at Milan and perhaps the league,” Montolivo continued. “The thing that struck me the most, is the presence he has on the pitch, his specific weight in every single play.

“Now if Sandro Tonali is not there, you can feel it.”
