The midfielder hasn’t featured in a competitive match since February, as he took far longer than expected to recover from a leg fracture on the eve of the 2014 World Cup.

“My career was put on hold for a year and a half, so now I really want to get it started again,” said the 30-year-old in a Press conference.

“I know that I mustn’t rush things, but I keep working in training to impress the Coach and I’ll be ready when called. I just have to focus on improving my fitness levels.”

There were reports Montolivo was hurt by Sinisa Mihajlovic’s criticism and even complained to the club.

“A team accepts what their Coach says. Anything to tells the media, he has already told us in the locker room. It’s a shame that untrue stories emerge in the Press. This team is united around its Coach.

“Tomorrow is an important game and could be decisive for our confidence levels. Inter are a huge opponent and we need to bring home the three points.”
