Milan's Riccardo Montolivo says he ‘hopes Andrea Pirlo is part of the Italy team’ after the New York City FC player was snubbed by ntonio Conte.

Conte suggested yesterday that Pirlo’s time with the national team may be up, but Montolivo told the media today that ‘we are talking about an incredible player.’

The Azzurri face Belgium on Friday in Brussels for an international friendly.

Conte suggested yesterday that Pirlo’s time with the national team may be up, but Montolivo told the media today that ‘we are talking about an incredible player.’

“It is hard to imagine a National team without Pirlo, for all he has brought in recent years,” said Montolivo at today’s Press conference.

“Now he’s playing in a foreign league and the season is over.

“The call-up is up to the CT, who will make the best choice for Italy. As an Italian though I hope that he will be part of this team, because we’re talking about an incredible player.

“If he’s not a part of the group, in my opinion it will be a matter of other dynamics and certainly not a question of quality.

“I honestly don’t believe that I’m an alternative to Pirlo, I’ve often played alongside him."
