The agent of Riccardo Montolivo has insisted that his client won’t be leaving Fiorentina at the end of the season for financial reasons.

The Italian international will quit Tuscany in June once his contract expires after no agreement could be reached on an extension.

“His reasoning for a departure has nothing to do with money,” agent Carlo Pallavicino told Forza Viola. “Wherever he ends up going, he won’t earn that much more than he does in Florence.”

Montolivo informed club officials before the start of this season that he didn’t intend to stay at the Franchi beyond 2012, but the Viola opted to keep hold of him.

“There was plenty of time left in the transfer market when the player told Fiorentina of his intentions,” the representative continued.

“However, the club didn’t want to consider the offers of Milan and Atletico Madrid despite those being acceptable destinations for the player.

“In September, Fiorentina and ourselves did move closer, but someone made a decision at the club which saw talks collapse.

“At the end of the season we will explain our truths which will probably change some people’s opinions of Riccardo.

“He’s made a decision and he accepts responsibility for that, but I think that the club mishandled the way they conducted negotiations for a renewal.”

Montolivo is being heavily linked with a Bosman switch to Milan once this season comes to an end.
