Juventus know sacking Max Allegri would be a financial nightmare, so the most likely option to replace him would be someone already under contract, specifically Primavera youth team coach and former defender Paolo Montero.

The Bianconeri have had a disastrous start to the season, losing both their Champions League games, winning only two of seven Serie A matches and suffering defeat to rock bottom Monza on Sunday afternoon.

This all increases the pressure on Allegri, who already finished last season without a single piece of silverware, something the Old Lady had not experienced in a decade.

Allegri has a contract to June 2025 earning €9m per season net, so firing him would be a financial nightmare for the club.

If they were to replace him, it would need to be someone relatively cheap rather than former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Fans are also eager to get someone known for their bond with Juventus, so the obvious candidate is Paolo Montero.

The 51-year-old was a Uruguay international and wore the Juve jersey from 1996 to 2005, when he returned to South America to see out his playing career.

He made 278 competitive appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring six goals and famously picking up 12 red cards, giving him the worst disciplinary record in Serie A.

Montero started his coaching career in South America before returning to Italy for Sambenedettese in 2019.

This summer he was appointed as Juventus Under-19 coach, so is already at the Continassa ground and under contract with the club.

9 thought on “Montero likely heir if Juventus fire Allegri”
  1. Susy you keep mentioning 9M/year while your collegue Lorenzo keeps writing 7M or 7.5M/year for Lord Hexagon.

Would you mind having an internal meeting about these figures and have this settled once and for all?

  2. The 7/9 would actually do this and do not bet against them in their quest to become a 10th placed team year in year out.

  3. Sorry, Ancelotti wouldn’t think about it for a second, talk more of taking it. He’s still relishing on May 2003 victory at Old Trafford.
