“It is in our profession to get criticised, as we were in the past, and we must also do well to resist feeling sated by compliments. I think my job is to bring balance.
“Torino are in good shape, unbeaten in 11 games, but we mustn’t make the mistake of thinking about the second leg with Tottenham. We have to get the right approach and continue like this. I think in terms of approach this is the most complicated game of all.
“Toro are well-structured and very strong on set plays, so it’s no wonder Kamil Glik is one of the top-scoring defenders in Serie A.
“I am happy that Omar El Kaddouri is absent, as his characteristics would’ve caused us problems, but that doesn’t take away from Torino’s quality.”
Khouma Babacar was stopped by police last night for driving without a valid licence and Montella joked about the incident.
“It was a silly mistake of youth. I asked him to move his car, as it was parked badly and then he got caught! That’s the version he told us and I want to believe him. The club has to decide if he gets called up.”
Borja Valero misses out, but Montella assured the midfielder will be ready to face Tottenham next Thursday.
“I don’t know if Salah can play four games in a row, but he does give me real guarantees.”
