“Yes it’s an important game,” Coach Montella acknowledged in his pre-match Press conference.
“It may be the most important game of the year, because we’re facing a tough opponent. It’ll be a typical Italian game.
“We’ve been highlighting the mistakes we made on Sunday throughout the week, fortunately there were many positive aspects too.
“A win would give us a little breathing space, and possible allow us to talk about other things, but that’s premature. All our energies are focused on this match.
“Chievo are a team assembled in a logical manner with respect to their style of play, they’ve brought in players with the right temperament and physicality.
“We have to play with great intelligence.”
Samp made the headlines this week when Antonio Cassano and Christian Puggioni clashed in training, but Montella shrugged the incident off.
“It was a falling-out, it can happen. Usually these episodes don’t come to light because everyone trains behind closed doors except for us at Sampdoria.
“Rhetoric aside, there are no consequences, the team is keen and has the right adrenaline.”
