“This is a squad made up of good people, perhaps too good, but they are bringing out there character now. There were some areas where we were lacking and the team understood that, so they’re 100 per cent ready to implement my ideas,” said the Coach in a Press conference.
Montella lost both games to Udinese and Milan since taking over from Walter Zenga, though they were both away fixtures.
“It’s an unusual return for me and results are not going well, but I am certain the fans will stay close to us, as they always have done.
“The Sampdoria team needs help and I’m confident the fans won’t hold back.”
Antonio Cassano could be thrown into the starting XI after shrugging off reports of a tantrum.
“Antonio is in good shape. He’s not at the apex of his career, but remains an important player for us and if he continues training like this then he can give his contribution.
“I am trying to help Luis Muriel, he is a player who years ago showed glimpses of something extraordinary. Now we must support him so he can feel free to express his potential.”
It won’t be easy against high-flying Sassuolo, who held Fiorentina last week and are trained by Montella’s former Roma teammate Di Francesco.
“Eusebio is a true friend and basically we grew up together. Tomorrow we’ll be facing an organised side with good timing, but I think we are still superior in terms of individual talent.
“Sassuolo are tough to take on, but this gives us further motivation to win the game.”
