“We are still one victory away from making sure and we want to get it tomorrow so we can celebrate with the fans who gave us so much – perhaps more than we deserved,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

“Every game is dangerous and full of potential threats, so we must approach them all the same way. If I have to analyse our recent performances, I’d say the team has grown in terms of self-belief and character.

“I managed to make myself understood by the team and I’ve always said they were capable of playing better and aiming for higher targets. We above all must improve our away form.”

It will be an intriguing clash on the touchline between ex-Roma striker Montella and former Lazio hitman Simone Inzaghi.

“It’s not a derby for me, as I have faced Lazio so many times as a player and Coach. I am just focused on getting the best for Sampdoria, as we need points.

“Unlike me, Inzaghi had more of an opportunity to learn and grow in the youth academy. When you come in mid-season, it is a different situation, but he’s had the chance to train with great players and can only improve.”

Andrea Ranocchia is suspended, joining Antonio Cassano, David Ivan, Niklas Moisander and Carlos Carbonero on the absentee list.

Angelo Palombo and Jacopo Sala have now recovered and are back in the side.

Montella concluded his Press conference by congratulating Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero and his partner on the birth of their son Rocco.
