Montella: Roma game like any other

Vincenzo Montella has suggested that he is not carrying strong emotions into this weekend’s meeting between current team Catania and old side Roma.

Montella welcomes the capital club to Sicily on Saturday night, a team he made 194 appearances and scored 83 goals for across two spells over a 10-year period.

However, the Rossazzurri Coach has already dismissed talk of revenge and in talking to Tuttomercatoweb.com, took the opportunity to again intimate that emotions going into this weekend's fixture will be no different to those of any other game.

“I do not feel particularly strongly about the game, perhaps because we are not playing at the Olimpico.

“It is a game like any other, as Coach of Catania I have a duty to prepare the club in the best way.”

Montella oversaw 16 games in charge of the Giallorossi, taking charge from mid-February last year through to the end of the 2010-11 season. Interestingly, his win percentage during that spell is remarkably similar to that achieved so far this season by Luis Enrique.

“To me there are no regrets for having left the bench at Roma,” reflected the 37-year-old, before offering an interesting comment in relation to the differing approaches to play that he and Enrique may have.

“I believe that the approach to the game is important, but sometimes you have to be clever to also earn points, even with the best approach – in this sense, our points have been well deserved.”
